Just Another Day On The Water
by Dan Musgrove

Dear Alaska Outdoor Journal,

My kids and I recently had a tremendous day on the Kenai fishing, viewing wildlife, etc. Mom was in New York on a trip so we needed to stay entertained. We figured what better way than fishing. My three daughters and I, ages 10, 8 & 8, left the house at 4:30am to hit the river with Uncle Todd.

On the first and only drift, my oldest, Kayla, hooked up, but lost it. Then fifty feet later, Morgan hooked into the seventy three pounder you see in the pictures.

After that, we went Red fishing. We caught a few and lost a few. While fishing that day, we watched ducks, eagles and a cow & calf moose swimming in the river.

At about 7:30am, we headed for the "Moose is Loose" on the way home to take care of our sweet tooth and reminisce about our great morning fishing. What a memory! After a few hours at home we decided to try our hand at dipnetting and ended up with 65 reds between the two families! Mom sure was surprised at our successful day fishing when she got home and was real sorry she missed all the gutting and filleting. We thought we'd share our fishing adventure with you and hope you enjoy the photos.

Thank you,
Dan Musgrove & girls (Kayla, Morgan & Mallory)

AOJ Note: For those that follow the Trustworthy Hardware Ice Fishing Derby on AOJ in February you will recognize the Musgrove gals as yearly participants and entrants in the contest. The whole clan are fishing fanatics so when I received this story and photos I wasn't too surprised. Jealous, YES! -KK- ]
