New 2008 Sport Fishing Regulations for the Mat-Su Valley and Northern Cook Inlet Area

FEBRUARY 26, 2008

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The Board of Fisheries (BOF) recently adopted several regulation changes during the February meeting held in Anchorage that will be in effect for the 2008 fishing season.

  • Alexander Creek is now closed to king salmon fishing.

  • The area open to king salmon fishing at the Eklutna Tailrace was expanded. In addition to the Tailrace and waters within a 1/2 mile radius of the mouth, anglers may now fish downstream to an ADF&G marker located approximately 2 miles downstream of the Tailrace mouth.

  • Two changes were made to Big Lake burbot: 1) The daily bag and possession limit was reduced from 5 to 2 burbot per day/2 in possession, and 2) Closed to the retention of burbot March 15 - April 30.

  • A new personal use dipnet fishery will open on the Beluga River for Alaska residents 60 years and older. The fishery will target salmon, other than king salmon, and be open July 20 - August 31 or until 500 salmon are harvested. Permits will be issued at the Palmer office of ADF&G. Permittees will be required to report catches weekly. Proxy fishing is not allowed.
