Resurrection Bay's Silver Lining Arrives Early in Y2K JULY 14 - Tens of thousands of anglers each year await the arrival of Resurrection Bay's silver salmon run. Many visiting fishermen as well as a large number of southcentral Alaska's residents spend at least some time in Seward in the latter half of summer catching these silver bullets whether from charters, their own boats, or right from the beaches and jetty in town. Dave & Christine Longley are one of AOJ's best "fish sniffers" when it comes to fishing Resurrection Bay area and Dave always seems to be one of the first to find the leading edge of the silver schools as they begin to move closer to the mouth of the bay where the smaller, short-range private boats can finally reach them. Christine poses with nine fish they landed at the outer edge of Fox Island on July 14th and that indicator bodes well for all anglers who fish the bay. Fox Island is located at the mouth of the bay and usually doesn't see silvers in catchable numbers until late July. Although it took Dave & Christine 8 hours to get these fish, they had a great trip and even hooked into a few king salmon which they lost at the boat. Photo Courtesy of: Dave Longley ©2000
