It Takes Twooooo.....Baby!
Martin and Martha Slusser are a couple of globe-trotters, having visited the British Isles last fall on the same tour that Loren & Sandra Flagg were on. It was during that acquaintance that the Slussers learned of Loren's summertime job as a Kenai River guide and decided to head west and north from their Dillsburg, PA home this summer to sample a bit of the Great Land and accept an invitation to try fishing on the Kenai River.
Although Martin is a seasoned angler of 78 years, Martha, just a blushing 73, had never gone on a fishing trip before (shame on you Martin). But now the writing is on the wall as to why he has always left her behind...this particular day's trip on the river provided each with a king salmon, but Martin's was only 32 pounds while Martha's pegged the scales at a chunky 60 pounds....a catch that even many local Alaskans have not caught in all the years they have fished the river.
Even though Martin had to swallow his pride that first day, he maintained an ace up his sleeve by having booked a second day on the river to double his odds of beating his wife's record...and yes he left her back on the beach this time! Well, to make a long story short, he scored again on that second trip and bagged a 28 pounder. Hmmm, 32 + 28 = 60.
