Last Minute King Headed For The Wall

Curtis Jones, a recent guest at the Holly House B&B in Soldotna, set out on a late season mission to bag a Kenai king salmon worthy of taking up some space on his wall. A positive attitude like that goes a long way towards making each minute on the river pass with anxious anticipation.

Fishing on July 31st (the last day of normal king season on the Kenai) is really putting all your eggs in one basket! But the strong run of fish this season and above average catch rates were variables in Curtis' favor. Here he finds out that holding up a nice 45 pound hen after a day of fishing is as much work as fighting the fish itself. And no doubt the permanent record hanging on his wall later this winter will bring back memories of that day as he retells that fish story to his friends. Since Curtis is a frequent visitor to the Soldotna area, no doubt we'll see him next summer working on beating his current record.
