Spring Thaw Brings Hot Chinook!

4/28....This year's early breakup and springtime weather always sets the stage for some earlier than usual scouting trips to determine if the first runs of kings have begun to enter the saltwater troll fishery along the beaches of Cook Inlet.

A few days ago one of the genuine early birds hit the saltchuck down at Homer to try for a combination of fish; halibut, feeder kings and mature spawners. I guess you could call Dave's results a triple play. Trolling off the Bluffs north of Homer he picked up a 25 pound king he released then bagged this nice 32 pound hen loaded with eggs....and indication the early runs for Crooked Creek and the Kenai River are beginning to move into the southern area of the saltwater troll fishery area.

Having bagged his king he proceeded to deeper water where he picked up a pair of halibut for the ride home. You can read his fishing report in the Private Angler Report for April 28th.

With little doubt the early kings are beginning to show and should even be showing up in fish boxes from Anchor Point to Ninilchik by now.
