Kenai Peninsula's Kachemak Bay Enhanced Salmon FisheriesKing Salmon - Seldovia Bay A new king salmon enhancement project was begun in Seldovia Bay in 1987. The goal of this project is to develop a king salmon sport fishery near the village of Seldovia about 20 miles southwest of the Homer Spit. Preliminary results are encouraging and harvestable numbers of adult king salmon are presently returning to this area. Most of the king salmon return to the Seldovia harbor and adjacent slough. The timing of these fish is similar to those at Halibut Cove Lagoon and Homer Spit, i.e. the run begins in mid May, peaks in mid June, and ends in early July. Trolling herring or artificial lures in Seldovia Bay are effective early in the run, while casting with artificial lures, salmon egg clusters, shrimp and cut herring are effective later in the season in Seldovia harbor. Check fishing regulations closely before fishing here. Current regulations allow snagging as a harvest method after June 23 in order to harvest surplus fish in this terminal fishery, where a spawning escapement is not required.
