HOPE on the Kenai Peninsula
- Page 2 -

This historic little community is still on the map but few travelers are even aware of its existence. And although a great majority of vacationers and Alaskans come to the Kenai Peninsula to enjoy the outdoors, most drive right past the Hope Highway turnoff without realizing what a unique treasure this area really is.

The Road to Hope
Hope is a scenic 88 mile drive from Anchorage. Head south on the Seward Highway through Turnagain Pass, 71 miles to the Hope Road turn-off just past the Canyon Creek Bridge. Then take a right turn. The independent houses bordering the Hope Road about Mile 7 are the remnants of Alaska's second gold rush town, Sunrise City. Hope is nestled near the end of the road at the mouth of Resurrection Creek on Turnagain Arm.

You can also start your trip to Hope from Soldotna by following the Seward Highway back towards Anchorage. The trip is 77 miles of beautiful scenery through the mountains to the Hope Turn-off. Driving the last 17.7 miles down Hope Highway will deliver you 100 years back in history.

Downtown Hope contains many buildings
near the mouth of Resurrection Creek
overlooking Turnagain Arm.
